AI Literacy Curriculum

We grow AI literacy

We are emphatic that AI literacy is already an essential 21st century skill. That is to say: we believe that there are many skills within AI that students will need to learn in order to effectively leverage AI in completing their school work, getting a job, or addressing huge issues like climate change.

But where will kids learn these skills?

Why AI Literacy?

In a time where artificial intelligence is reshaping the world daily, it’s clear that preparing our students to understand, interact with, and leverage AI technologies is no longer optional—it’s essential.

However, this domain is emergent and rapidly advancing in ways that even its creators don’t fully understand. Further, the only “AI experts” are holed up at big tech companies like Google, Microsoft/OpenAI, and Nvidia and they aren’t educators.

Educators need an accessible, adaptable guide to preparing young people for the world they’ll inherit, but it hasn’t existed…until now.

Introducing: Evergreen's AI Competencies for K-12

Evergreen AI has been working for 18 months with educators, school leaders, educational technologists, tech companies, and policymakers to create one-of-a-kind set of AI Competencies that articulate the must-have AI skills for the future. Download here.

Evergreen’s AI Competencies focus on ‘domains’ that students must learn about AI and operating in an AI-powered world:

  • AI Essentials
  • Future-Ready Thinking
  • Wayfinding
  • Human-Machine Collaboration
  • AI-Leveraged Innovation
  • Ethical and Societal Implications

Competency Breakdowns

Domains (like Wayfinding) comprise 11 Clusters (e.g. Sensemaking), which themselves comprise ~60 Competencies, or benchmarks that students should achieve before graduation.

The AI Competencies also have level-appropriate, curriculum-aligned starter ideas for any school that wants to safely and pragmatically integrate AI.

Next Steps: Common Core Alignment

Future versions will be fully aligned to the Common Core, which would allow most schools across the US to teach AI while teaching “the basics.” If you’re interested in Common Core-aligned AI competencies, let us know by completing this form.
